On being a catch-all term, I’d also add, one could argue even a dice made in BASIC for the Apple II is AI, for it makes decisions based on what is fed to it.

I do hate that AI has become a catchall for “generative AI.”

      “Does this game contain AI?”
Well, I hope so, or it wouldn’t be much of a game.

But “slop generator” wouldn’t be as effective at pumping up that economy-destroying bubble, so the tech bros have financial reasons for not using honest terminology.

I’ve never seen anyone else really talk about how, as soon as people started to distinguish the misused “ai” with “general ai”, suddenly all the tech bros were calling it gen(erative) ai. Fucking bullshit scammers, the lot of em.

The opposite also annoys me, where slop slurpers try to drop arguments like “well the ghosts in pac man actually used AI!” as if it were some kind of huge gotcha

Like nice try but no, the slop coming from the unzipped pants of these tech bros is in fact not the same as “computers in general”. Although to be honest I think everything after oil lamps has basically been “magic” to a huge chunk of the population so I understand why their scummy marketing is so effective
