      Sure, but it was not like they were doing anything important that needed their attention. It is fine to reply immediately, your conversation partners will thank you for it.

      I gotta check my phone pretty Sharp during working times, even if I’m not working, in case I’m needed

          Not for me.

          I get paid for 8 hours per week, at a rate thats roughly equivalent to the national average wage, to be available for eight hours on three different days.

          I almost never actually do eight hours of actual work, so I feel like I’m okay with this deal. I turn off the phone evenings and weekends, I’m not the only one who can help with stuff most of the time.

          I do get that a lot of stuff about being on call is abusive and exploitive, but most of the world is not the US.
