What’s the alternative closest to the completeness of Instander at the moment? I have been using the last version of Instander still supporting v7a which is v16.0 for many years now and as it seems there is a chance it will finally stop working soon.

Is their one app, for pixelfed, Lemmy and mastadon, that respects your privacy? Or is 3 separate apps better?

FediLab is an explicitly general Fediverse app, though it’s not designed for lemmy. There’s also plenty of native cross-fedi support, as all activities are translated into ActivityPub events.

Frankly I’d recommend a separate app for Lemmy-likes and Mastodon-likes. The difference between following communities and following accounts seems to result in a lot of jank, if crammed into one app.

My favourite Band for example. They only use Instagram and Facebook. It’s infuriating. I just log in via browser every few months.

Make a page for them, auto paste their content, then tell them they have a following on pixelfed, and hand them the account.

            and I quote you:

How many others feel the same way? At the next concert you say, they’ve got another page, on an open source network, come check it out. You say you’re a big fan, so why support them? Never failed, never tried.

All networks start small. What happens upon seeding is we often find, increasingly interesting overlaps, someone, somewhere different, or someone different finds it. Because it’s an open network, not a gate kept network, or at least more open. Over the long run, the fediverse will increase in population, and popularity, overtaking networks whose primary purpose is advertising and data collection. So yes, start small, try and see what happens. This is his we build sustainable networks, for the people, by the people.

The thing is that you don’t need to close you FB/Insta/X/whatever account to open one in any Fediverse service, but they don’t get that.
