I dont understand why the publishers don’t host their own servers. The fediverse is out there, there are ways to request donations, they could work together with opensource devs to have a built in donation system, they can publish everything on opensource platforms.

Instead, they are trying to negotiate with companies that don’t give a fuck about them. That’s weak. Find your own solutions, find your own sources of revenue. Trying to strike a deal with US tech companies is just negotiating your own demise or giving up power.
