This was huge. No, huge doesn’t begin to cover it, this was tectonic. He said out loud the thing very few people have been willing to explicitly state: the old world order based around US hegemony is over. And that’s a good thing. We must now build a new, democratic rules based order in place of US hegemonic dominance.
Folks, this will be one of the most pivotal moments of the 21st century.
Now its said aloud - now what? On thiis very moment there would be momentum to actually accomplish things, but as trump always chickens out, the momentum will mellow out unless things are done now.
Boot hungary off the EU and take Canada into the bloc. Create EU armed forces and simplify/unify taxation across the EU. EU should be more united than now.
Where things go wrong are when bigger EU nations have their own interests come into play to fuck it up for the rest of us. Like Germany swallowing everything coming from the US (because of car exports) or from Russia (because of gas import). There are challenges, but for 20 years I dont think EU has accomplished much in practical sense but more regulation upon regulation. I dont think that’s a winner strategy.
The EU has some important things that it needs to get sorted out, for sure, but the rest of the world can’t wait on the EU to start building the new world order. In fact, it’s happening whether anyone likes it or not.
