Almost as good the feeling as blocking a toxifying troll that’s been posting to the same comment for 5 days pretending they are there to have a valid argument. They just …disappear. Got to love that function these days.

I just remind myself that, if their first comment is unintelligent, their following comments usually don’t exceed that level.

I have a problem. I like good conversation. Unfortunately you can’t tell if someone will provide it online until a post or two. So I end up responding to haters. I should notice them more quickly.

Hot tip: check poster history before you commit too deep.

Learned that one on the hard streets of Reddit.

Sometimes I still start typing, but just to realise a few words in that it’s entirely pointless. But usually I don’t bother blocking.

My block list isn’t very big (14 if you exclude NSFW accounts), so if you’re on it, you’re something of a special level of toxic.

I’ve never blocked anyone, although I’m tempted with one that has been stalking me for months, since I opened. I think it’s an alternate account of a troll on hexbear.

Often such alts are quite open about who they are, some explicitly stating those facts and e.g. how their alt predates their hexbear account (so not created to get around a ban, but then in the very next sentence proudly announcing how they can use it to that effect, as if that is somehow any better, or even different in the slightest degree?).

I wouldn’t know how to find out for sure in your case without stalking them in return though:-).

I’m not all that sensitive so don’t care enough to investigate too far, it’s just pathetic on their account. Whatever arguments I originally made it was enough to keep an unstable person obsessed with my account for months.

Like I waste a lot of time on comment boards, especially in winter, but I’m not stalking people for months over some slight. Not for the day let alone months. I will check a profile, even comment if I have a valid opinion on something else they said. I’m not going ten pages deep or coming back after the fact though.

This is peak content. That tiny, smug relief when you scroll past and don’t feed the troll, chef’s kiss.

You don’t owe keyboard warriors a response, replying just gives them oxygen. Used to waste nights arguing with strangers, now I block and go pet a dog. Way better ROI on my sanity.

Also, that dog is judging my old comment history and I deserve it. Silence is underrated, 11/10 would choose again.
