The veilid network is not a proxy, but is an anonimized by default network of its own that uses internet infrastructure but does not interact with the traditional web. There are also differences in the private routing, primarily the decision to let sources and destinations both choose part of the chain of chain of nodes traffic is routed through. Again, the idea is to build it into apps rather than putting the responsibility of hiding your ip and identity on the user.
