You joke but these terms do have a codified diplomatic usage by these countries and if you pay attention they consistently apply them to confer the severity of an issue, telegraphing their response. Don’t get too used to the chaos and backwardness of US media, which now includes Kalshi and Polymarket whether you like it or not. CNN is on the level of goddamned “Unusual Whales” and accounts like that.

People ridicule China’s “deeply concerned” etc language but they use it for 5 distinct kinds of issues ranging from red lines over US military confrontation to peripheral disputes between Eritrea and Ethiopia that indirectly involve their transnational corps.

Slamming in the media is pretty clear, it’s when the NYT suddenly goes from centrist Kamala Hitler to full “attacking Iran during Purim is lowkey based”. There’s a tonal shift that shows the media is being used to trumpet something handed down from the Pentagon. We should have a new term for whatever kind of humiliation ritual WaPo pulled on Zelensky, revealing leaks they had received about his failures just to have him flail openly for the camera.

We saw this in the past weeks with the “tens of thousands of protestors dead” shit
