Every ecologist knows curling stones don’t hibernate, they migrate to Canada for mating and birthing and the young one’s education.
I believe they return to their spawning grounds in Scotland.
Much like monarch butterflies, those are actually two separate species. The species of Curling Stone which returns to Scotland is actually on the IUCN Red List.
I hope PETA wins the fight to prevent them from being hunted to make whiskey stones. 😢
I passionately support them on this. Sadly so many people are ignorant of how cruel whiskey stones are…
For real. Who the hell wants cold whisky?
They’ve actually all been
murderedcut up into little curling stone memorabilia actually. $89 to own a tiny piece of the Olympic stones
I just picture a couple of them seeing a therapist holding a stone doll asking where the bad Canadian man touched them.
I love this kind of quiet, nerdy humor. Turning sports equipment into little creatures with a seasonal life cycle is oddly wholesome and very clever.
I want them to curl wombats.
World championships start on the 27th!
Reminds me of the glacier mice that got posted here a few weeks ago: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glacier_mice
they have been observed in Alaska, Chile, Greenland, Iceland, Svalbard, Uganda and Venezuela
Are… are there glaciers in Uganda?
Apparently, there’s the Rwenzori mountains with glaciers: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rwenzori_Mountains
This map suggests that Mount Elgon in the east is also rather cold:

But from what I can tell superficially, it doesn’t have glaciers…
Hope they get all cozy after they curl up in their den.
Nature is so beautiful
