Harriet Haller’s Records: For Madwomen Only

“Maya S. Trojan. My estrogen? Get it, get it? … Fuck you shut up then, I think your jokes are stupid too!”

I weave back and forth between silly goose and solarpunk socialist.

I’m just one big ball of fucked up and anxious and that’s OK.

  • First half is true, second half…

Oh no, I only wish. I short circuit and get depressed, feeling like people are lying to me and only being nice to me to get me to shut up and go away. It’s something I’ve been working on for a while now, even accepting simple compliments without minimizing them or acting like the person who is giving the compliment doesn’t know enough about me to make that judgment and therefore they’re wrong. I really hate it, honestly. Because my crooked mind thinks “oh you’re just being humble and realistic” when I’m actually actively tearing down positive thoughts about myself. This is a thing that is irrespective of my gender, it’s just a “me” problem in general.

It’s so weird, even on my prior account, I never did anything but browse the “subscribed” tab. And you know what? I’ve literally never had any communities show up that I didn’t want to see. How strange.

It’s just hilarious how people want everyone else to curate their experience for them instead of knowing how to curate it for themselves, especially when the tools are readily available for them to self-curate.

  • Beyond all that… AppImage? Fuck that’s what they’re going with, really? I get that it’s platform agnostic or whatever but it’s literally my least favorite way to get an app delivered to me because it’s so fucking opaque. I know that’s probably an unpopular opinion, but I do, I hate AppImages. It feels like the lazy assholes way of committing to Linux support when they’re a giant corporation. This isn’t some guy coding it all on his own in his basement for no money because it’s open source. I can live with that because that guy is just one guy and maybe doesn’t have the time or resources to pack it five different ways. But a company that big? Go fuck yourself, Tim Sweeney.

  • It’s insane, but it’s actually true.

Forcing yourself into “positive” routines and thought patterns, even when you’re not “feeling” them absolutely impacts how you handle life and your ability to move forward positively in it. My worst times have always been when I haven’t been able to force myself to do that, that’s when I know it’s really bad. I learned young that the only way out of chronic depression was routine, cleanliness, and goals.

Especially with trying to get out of depression, there’s weirdly an element of “faking it til you make it” that actually works. Those small goals build up over time, building not just confidence and calm, but forward inertia in your life.

So yes, how do you stay so positive?

    Delusion.

  • Thank you, it’s an important distinction to make. I also had a very emotionally and mentally abusive girlfriend who used threats of suicide and making me watch herself self harm were used as tactics of control.

You’re right of course, the massive amount of misogyny in society doesn’t mean that abuse from women doesn’t happen, of course it does. However sadly, it happens at far lower rates and/or because often, like in my case, the kind of abuse they do isn’t necessarily visibly as scars, only as mental scars, it also gets less attention and understanding.

It’s the same with almost all violence and horror. Yes, women do it too, for sure. However, men do it at such high rates in comparison (there can be debate on why) that it cannot be ignored or minimized, even for those who have been abused by women.

Abuse in general is terrible, as I’m sure we can all agree. It doesn’t mean that I’m way more likely to be killed by a woman as a trans woman, nope, my biggest fear is straight cisgender men, and the statistics bear it out.

Note: when I say “woman” here I’m obviously referring to all of us, that’s how much more violence comes from straight cisgender men, it just dwarfs any and all other categories.
