Setup a VM bot net, RAM problem solved.
Going from my laptops to a client’s Windows machine feels like I’m stepping back in time, every time.
Even my Win10 VM is light years ahead of Windows ‘proper’ because of all of the modifications to make it usable.
MS Windows belongs in a museum, not at an office or on a desk.
(hate spewed at me by Adobe Premiere)
Thank God you don’t either.
Booooooo. Mr. Seriously over here.
Lighten up Francis.
You forgot the /S.
You should only change distros because you friggin feel like it. Don’t gatekeep man, it’s fun to try new things, especially when they are neato free and useful. Be supportive of exploration, that’s how new things get discovered.
I live on a cruising sailboat and have bought gear from Sun Electronics in Miami Lakes, Fl a few times.
They’ll sell you A panel or pallet after pallet of every conceivable type and manufacturer and power rating. There is no sales tax in Florida on anything having to do with solar power, so that could also save you some money.
Here they have several examples of complete systems to give you an idea / crash course of what’s involved.
These are examples, and as you start to learn more about the different components and choices (lead acid vs LifePo4 batteries, or home built or store bought, EV powerwall, etc etc) you’ll see your prices change.
I’m not affiliated, just a happy customer.
Purchase a used laptop for $300. Install Lini (Linuxes, Linuxis?), learn.
I … I don’t have any of these problems…
Am I missing out on shit? Have I Grandpa Simpsoned?
Download the live disc images of Ubuntu, Mint, Debian, Arch blah blah etc etc etc.
Distrowatch.com is a great resource.
Take them for a test drive before you commit.
If this is your 1st forlay into Linux and you just wanna ride, do yourself a favor and install Mint. It works, and it’s a great way to get into it easily and painlessly and operates (mostly) how you would expect it to coming from another OS.
Welcome
No link, we didn’t publish the work.
Debian, add Mint, Backbox, Opencpn, Navigatrix, Marinux, Mozilla, Kismet and several other depots. It’s a monster at the end and I have to pay attention when updating and booting, but it gets all the jobs done for me all of the times.
A hacker group in Seattle (GHI) years ago attempted to build secure systems on top of compromised hardware. Although different levels of security could be achieved, the overall outcome was No. You cannot build a fully secured system on top of compromised hardware.
A VPS for this exercise counts as ‘compromised’ hardware.
Have you perused Distro Watch?
Lots of good info & news, and info on just about every distro there is, stuff you’ve never heard of. Years and years ago this was my introduction to FreeNAS that made a huge difference in my life. You should check it out if you haven’t already.
I’ve used Lets Encrypt for years and years, in fact it’s been at least 6?. LE with the encryptbot?, automate the entire process, and then completely forget about it until someone posts on Lemmy asking about it.
It’s been long enough I’ve forgotten the proper names of the software and I would have to go back through my notes to recreate it.
Just checked the logs and it’s fine.
Don’t pay for shit.

No-ip.
I’ve been using them for about 15 years now. Started when I self hosted at home with the free service and even though I moved to a VPS I still use them ($32 USD / year, dedicated TLD, dedicated IP). I can add redirects, temp static landing page, etc etc.
I’ve had a SINGLE outage of their service in that time.
They also have free services as well, dynIP clients for Win & Lin, and their shit works. Most DD-WRT / OpenWRT images also support it.
