Another group claiming they have people on the team who worked on Guitar Hero and Rock Band. This one looking more like the clone games that already exist.
Also has a fall release date in early access. Originally first to be announced this year. A lot of concern about AI generated content.
No song list either.
Might not be buying any of these out of the gate
Plus you need to track down a real cable to use it. I’ve tried using RockSmith a little while back to learn and I found the game only gotten the way of my learning. Not to mention at the time there weren’t songs I cared about learning. You really need to have had mastering finger placement and chords before you ever touch the program. And even then I never got very far with it.
I loved Rockband for the experience of feeling like a rockstar. Feeling like a crowd cheering me on. RockSmith to me is a very different beast. A great milestone in tech but one that serves a very different purpose.
I mostly agree. Like you already noted, both serve different purposes. One is a game and one is gamifying learning. Even without knowing proper finger placement you will, over time, build up the ability to play songs and have a passable foundation to use the instrument. I’d wager any self taught guitarist will have any number of bad habits or irregular approaches to playing… Regardless of method used.
I think (unsurprisingly) that experience [with it] may be subjective. Gamifying repitition using an instrument is a great way to blow past a lot of the hangups people have initially approaching it. Personally I think it’s a cool concept and found it sufficent to keep me interested and invested. I definitely think it has its flaws but for some it may be good enough.
Rocksmith is available again, if you have a real (bass) guitar. There are loads of custom songs available.
Rocksmith is what got me back into playing bass regularly again and gave me a way to actually perform when I was no longer in a band. Fired it up, loaded up twitch, and took requests all night. I even got a second cam rigged to the neck of my bass. 2014 was an instant buy and had CDLC so damn quick. I praised it up and down for years. By comparison, plus is performatively better, but it’s also subscription based trash. No CDLC, not getting my money. Didn’t even let you carry over already purchased songs, which they did between original Rocksmith and 2014.
Also there’s a mod set for 2014 now that includes a fix for the sample rate problem that ubisoft told us was impossible to do. It let’s you specify a sample rate so that you can use Bluetooth headphones or other devices that aren’t locked to 48khz, like Bluetooth headphones. Used to have to route it through voicemeeter and deal with a pretty significant delay.
I wish YARG was easier to calibrate. Clone Hero’s auto detection works really well for me, but it doesn’t look nearly as good.
i thought yarg had made these releases obsolete.
For me the GH killer was frets on fire.
fof got better but it still to this day has massive timing issues.
It’s still around? Figured it’d be pretty much read by this point and replaced by CH
i think it died before then. latest version is from 2008.
And Clone Hero.
