Ahead of the Linux 7.0-rc6 kernel due to be released later today, quite a number of EXT4 file-system fixes were sent out this morning.
Ted Ts’o sent out the latest round of EXT4 fixes for Linux 7.0, which appear heavier than normal with various Syzkaller issues resolved, some memory leak fixes, a use-after-free bug, a potential crash, an fsync bug, and a variety of other fixes all making it into this stable pull
Equal parts mad and cool that ext4 is still getting meaningful updates

Wow, ok. Now I feel old. Yeah, I remember updating my system from ext3 to ext4 (an incredibly easy process). I can’t believe that was 20 years ago.
I remember using ReiserFS and moving away from it for… reasons.
There seems to be a pattern with Linux FS maintainers.

When I first switched to Linux around 20 years ago, ext3 was the new default on the Ubuntu installer, while a few holdouts on the forums were still recommending ext2 to new users to see whether and how ext3 would hold up to real world usage.
