Yesterday a divine miracle happened and a wild Xbox360 S phased into reality in my apartment. What cool and neat things I can do with it?

    What now?

Play some of the greatest games of all time for like $10 a pop. Don’t even gotta hack. The 360 is the most affordable console in terms of bang for buck in 2026

    You’ve got:

    • Skyrim
    • Portal 2
    • The og Halo trilogy
    • Assassin’s creed II and IV
    • Forza Horizon

    And more!

There are bunch of good games for it. You could also mod it and look into homebrew and emulators.

I am specifically looking into modding. Is there anything cool I can do with it besides ABadAvatar? I am planning to expand storage to 1TB SSD. Drive also can be flashed but it seems to be super expensive to get flashing tool for that.

Also, if I go ABadAvatar route, is there a way to lock xbox into autobooting directly into Aurora without waiting for ABadAvatar to perform unschackle?

If you want a mod that persists, you’d need to do a hardware modification called the RGH exploit. It’s doable on an Xbox 360 S, but you need decent re-soldering skills to pull it off. I haven’t done it in years, but it sounds like ABadAvatar could make the process a lot easier than it used to be.

I possess soldering skills so that is no issue.

I been reading and things are confusing for me. Some say that I only need 2 wires to run across the motherboard and run ABadAvatar. But if I read ConsoleMods wiki, it seems that I need a programmer. I have ordered rpi pico for this and will dive into it once I figure out the process.

I know things have changed since I last did an RGH setup, which is probably where the confusion comes from; things are changing even though the scene was most active 10+ years ago.

I imagine you don’t need a NAND flasher now that ABadAvatar exists, but I could be mistaken. The process used to be, at a really high level: solder the NAND flasher/dumper, dump the original NAND, solder the RGH timer, then flash a NAND with a good timing profile for that console.

With RGH3 you technically don’t absolutely need a flasher since you can technically flash from within the BadUpdate jailbreak, but a flasher is nice if you need to recover the nand if something goes wrong.

But you may want to consider just going the BadAvatar route. My soldering skills are above average after university but if you’re not used to SMD stuff you will struggle. BadAvatar takes less than a minute and will boot you into Aurora right after it finishes.

Its also worth noting that some later slims can’t be hardmodded at all so just look out for that. I would recommend the consolemods wiki and if you look on YouTube you’re bound to find some resources

My model is Trinity. Apparently, the easiest to RGH3 it. My soldering skills are above average. I possess needed tools and components.

I thought to just do ABadAvatar too but I still wanted to disassemble Xbox to change thermal paste and clean dust. So might as well solder 2 wires and a resistor while at it. This console will never be used with ms account anyway so why the hell not to hard hack it? 😅

I don’t know the program names anymore, but a buddy had his 360 homebbrewed with emulators and that was a good time

Halo 3, and black ops 1 zombies were my favorites. Halo reach and ODST are great. We also used to play Left 4 Dead 2 at LAN parties

Those are all on PC though (BO1 PC port kinda sucks)

As far as I know, there is Clone Hero homebrew.

I used to have full rockband set and an jtagged phat console. It was epic!

I also own rocksmith cable with pc version of the game. Hope I can use it with Xbox too.

this… I only buy consoles when they are like $5-10 at thrift stores and crap, then I mod them and download the entire game library and throw emulators on it

haven’t bought a new console since PS3 and never will again. it’s at a point where I won’t even buy old used ones because of how shitty they are compared to the old ones

i really like the delidded image that shows that the “combined chip package” shows that it’s literally just two chips in the same package
