The servo company at this point says they have no plans on releasing their test browser servo shell to the public. Does anyone of any browsers currently using or it in development?
Servo company? It’s an open-source project underneath the Linux Foundation. The Servo Shell source code seems to be here: https://github.com/servo/servo/tree/main/ports/servoshell
It probably wouldn’t be too difficult to compile it yourself, if you really want it.However, you have to mind that it’s damn near impossible to build a browser from scratch that supports the majority of web standards at this point. Servo does not do so. Most webpages will not be usable on it.
That’s the reason why they don’t care to provide a general-purpose browser interface. Because Servo is only useful at this point when only a specific webpage or specific set of webpages needs to be displayed.
So, generally when it’s embedded into hardware or into a software application, where the user does not have a URL bar to type arbitrary addresses into, and where the webpage to display can be specifically crafted for Servo.Nothing really meant to use as a daily driver. There’s some sort of WebView implementation in Tauri and apparently a not-really-maintained browser project: https://gitlab.com/verso-browser/verso
No unfortunately, it still doesnt seem to be ready yet. You can use some sort of implementation iirc but ‘use’ was a real stretch last time I checked it out. Here is a screen shot for reference. Theres potential but it needs to cook. Also, Rust, the King of Cuck licensing, not a fan of it replacing everything.
It’s a shame really. It’s sounds like it’s been in development for a really long time. But I imagine it’s mostly volunteers at this time . Patience is virtue
The real shame is we cant get a standards mandate from anybody because everyone wants to control the net. The default internet browser should be an open source one contributed to by everyone imo.
