Hello fellow tinkers!

So I disassembled my Steam Deck to put in some ExtremeRate buttons. And after assembling it again I had no input on the volume buttons or any output/registered headphones from the jack.

So I bought a replacement audioboard and just switched it. Still no input or output. I checked the connections of the flex cable on the audioboard and it is good. The same for the connection under the heat sink on the motherboard. There is also no visible signs of kinks or tears in the cable.

So what am I missing ? Is there some hidden connection somewhere I can’t see that could have gotten loose ? I would really like to fix it myself if possible and not have it send in for repair.

Hope anyone can help !

Edit: My deck is the revised OLED, so it only has the one flex cable connecting the audioboard and the motherboard.

And for some reason the microphone still work. Which is weird since I thought the mic was connected via the same cable.

    It’s possibly a damaged cable, they’re pretty delicate.

    Also, are you sure you bought the same type of replacement audio board? The original LCD decks used two ribbon cables to connect the audio board, while the revised design LCDs and OLEDs use only a single cable. If you bought the wrong audio board it may have a secondary unused ribbon connector, and won’t work with just the single ribbon cable of the newer decks.

      I am also coming to that conclusion. Which sucks because I have to take out the screen to replace it.

      And yes. I’m sure I bought the right one :) I didn’t mention it in the original post, but I was aware of the different models and revisions.

    Do the speakers still work? Can you change the volume from the taskbar in desktop mode?

    You could try running alsamixer in the terminal. That should give you more control over all audio devices.

      Yes the speakers still work. And I can change the volume both in Big Picture mode and Desktop mode with the slider.

      I don’t really know what to do in alsamixer to test/change volume input.

      xev also doesn’t give any output when pressing the volume buttons.
