Can German be any less confusing, please?

We have started into various forms of past tense sentence structure and the rules… Oh the rules.

Add in how written German is different in places then spoken…

    I’ll make it, I know I can.

Still reading B1 books. Classes are helping a ton on structure and rules. Listening is getting better.

I’ve managed several good interactions in stores, shops, and museums entirely in German. Many people are very understanding when I ask to at least try since I’m learning.

Wir wohnen in Deutschland. Ich muss Deutsch sprechen!

Grammatik aktiv 40+. I’m halfway done my current textbook.

Not much to say. I’m beginning to learn vocab from some exercises now, but I’m still worried that my overall vocabulary is lagging behind.

Reality check for me last week: I don’t know how I missed it, but the JLPT has hard minimums for each section. That means I have to really focus on my listening development or all this other study isn’t going to matter. And I just got some feedback that I’ve got some fundamental issues with my listening. How quickly I can shore all that up is unknown.

Suddenly feeling much less confident about passing the exam. I’m still full steam ahead on the study project, but it’s really starting to look like I’m not going to be able to do all the grammar prep. Might have to triage some stuff.

I’ve done a lot of listening practice this week. Active immersion for 30+ minutes and lots of passive immersion. My brain always feels so tired afterwards - which I guess is a good sign.

A little Japanese bento-ya moved in recently and this week I stopped by to give them a try. It was great! Authentic Japanese food (not Americanized in the slightest) and actual Japanese employees. Where I live almost all Japanese food is conveyor sushi with no actual Japanese employees.

I struck up a small conversation with the cashier. She was super sweet and said I sounded very natural, although I was so nervous I was really struggling. I really need more speaking practice.

Currently working on the following song’s lyrics.

    • ポジティブ☆ダンスタイム
    • Colorful (By HAG)

One issue I found was that words in the lyrics are surprisingly not diverse. Maybe I should have seen that one coming, but oh well. They’re nice to listen to.

Someone in my immediate family was hospitalised, so I haven’t been able to study as rigorously as I used to. That being said the bare minimum I’ve done is at least 20 minutes in Japanese. My Irish has taken a backseat for the most part, and my Spanish is sort of intermittent.

Sort of settled down a bit more this morning, so I’m currently doing my studies as my friend develops his game. Somehow managed an hour today, including 200 Japanese reviews and 30 minutes of Spanish. To add to that, I’ll be upgrading to the B1 section of Duolingo in Spanish in the next few days if I’m consistent, so I at least have that going for me. Edit: Oh yeah, and upgrading to N4 on my Japanese in the next few weeks, so I’m looking forward to that more.

Sorta depressing recently, but like… yeah… Life I guess.
