People always shit on China, not realizing workers have good protection in general. Besides that unlike the US, China has a strong privacy protection law similar to the European GDPR. You’ll never hear about this, because that goes against what western propaganda would like you to believe.

    https://www.hawksford.com/insights-and-guides/china-pipl-compliance-guide

Edit : exactly what I was expecting. Commenting ongoing negativity about China. Not talk about illegal wars started by the US, bombing children, the US genocide against the native Americans, slavery. No always the same rinse and repeat. I get it China bad. Like North Korea but worse except for all the advances in technology, infrastructure and medicine.

Same China that has 17% youth unemployment rate and says that the “lying flat” trend is “western propaganda”. Same China that is notorious for 996 where people work from 9am to 9pm 6 days per week?

You know you can be critical of Chinese policy and propaganda without hating China or liking the US. Use your brain dude, stop being a sheep.

If you feel like you need to mention those things on every post mentioning China, maybe the sheep is your mirror.

That’s exactly OP’s point: can’t mention anything positive China does without all the worlders diverting. “Keep buying ICEs, because EVs use Chinese batteries, and you wouldn’t want to fund them!”. Big Oil thank you for your service, now go grab MacDonald’s where employees are treated with the utmost respect. Don’t look up.

Not talk about illegal wars started by the US, bombing children, the US genocide against the native Americans, slavery.

This isn’t a post about the US, so those things would be completely off-topic. People do talk about those things, but it would be misplaced on a post that has nothing to do with the US.

It’s kind of weird that you’re trying to insert them here, and complaining that no one else has inserted them yet.

I think its that people see all the shitty things their own country does and realize that its not really and better. Especially if your an American and your tax dollars are used to fund a genocide for Israel and concentration camps in the US. Neither country has any morale high ground.

You may not be wrong, and I understand what you’re trying to convey, but I don’t think I could’ve conjured a more lukewarm response.

Do you have any alternatives you consider less biased? Claiming this, or anything like it, has its own biases seems needlessly tautological.

It’s not tautological, especially as it purports to be a standard of truth. If it were tautological, that claim would be nonsense.

Anyway, there are other alternatives. I do know there was a time where you’d be heavily criticized on Lemmy for using MBFC, as they’re fairly heavily neo-liberal/status-quo biased.

However, I’m not proposing to use one of those alternatives either though (though they may be better). I’m stating that the “MBFC says this” argument is pretty weak. It’s not engaging with the actual content, or trying to check it. It’s purely, at best, an ad hominem in an attempt to dismiss it, without concern for what it says. You’re allowed to use your own brain on occasion. You don’t have to fall back on someone else telling you if you’re allowed to engage with something or not.

Maybe it’s the fact that every Chinese citizen is registered in the province of their birth, and can only draw social services in the province of their birth. All social services are paid for at the province level, and rich provinces do not subsidize poor provinces.

Citizens are legally barred from changing this registration except in cases of extreme wealth. The thing is, there are lots of jobs in the rich provinces and no jobs in the poor ones, so you have a permanent legal underclass who is exploited to make the lives of about 15% of the population seem pretty good.

That 15% is the ones who get free healthcare, unemployment, and generally all of the workers rights. The rest get shit all.

The problem with China is all of the fundamental lies that conflict each other. It’s communist but also the most capitalist, it’s free and citizen focused but also you have to sacrifice all of your rights and no complaining, it’s unified but also you can’t leave your province.

It’s a generic authoritarian playbook that somehow tricked a bunch of people with red flags and prettu uniforms as if it’s something more than that.

For me the litmus test is always freedom of information. No country is “for the people” while keeping people purposefully in the dark. Either it’s a lie or extreme incompetence - neither should be taken as anything other but that.

Giving facts is bootlicking? There is workers protection in China, there is social security, there is social healthcare and there are laws that protect your privacy. Just because it doesn’t fit your worldview, doesn’t mean I’m a bot, or CCP clown or bootlicker. I thought people on lemmy are better educated.

For it’s workers? China is still behind EU when it comes to workers rights and benefits though? Good for them they are slowly, very slowly progressing in that regard.

E.g. paid time off in China is 5 days a year, +5 for every decade of cumulative work experience; it starts at 4-6 weeks in the EU; China has more of it’s own youth muddled in gig economy then EU (don’t get me started on how exploitative gig work is, it is disgusting any country allows for that practice).
