It’d be pretty funny if they started a separtist party that ended up splitting the conservative vote 😅

Considering how locked they are into the idea of having their own land i think it should be called the land-locked party!

So now the US is covertly backing a Canadian separatist group. This seems like an escalation from before, when Trump was simply talking about annexing us. Of course we are still a long way off from full-throttled annexation, but it’s alarming to hear that not only is the Trump administration still interested in this idea, but they’ve actually upped the ante.

I really hope someone writes a book about how selective Canadians have been about what constitutes imperialism. Alberta seperatism gained traction over ten years ago and can be attributed to US social media algos promoting fascism as much as it can be to the inherent inequities in Canada’s election system, extractivist economy, and settler-colonialism. It would be extremely difficult to argue that Canada has had any single election at any level without US intervention in some way over the past decade.

There was a news story some time ago about Trump administration meeting with separatists. It’s been longer than ‘now’. At this point the US is an easily convinced extension of Russia, not there point for point but close enough for the major things, like those silly oil sanctions being temporarily relieved recently.

At this point the US is basically an adversary but we have to tiptoe around it cause when they don’t get value from Iran they’ll be looking for some military victory beyond Cuba. So we have to fondle their leader’s balls a bit to fluff him up regularly. Thankfully it’s relatively simple to change his direction of thoughts but sure when daddy Putin reminds him of their blackmail he’ll fall in line eventually. Just have to stretch out the time long enough.

Hopefully the courts figure out any separatism isn’t legally possible, especially with first Nation treaties in place and it gets shut down.

The separation wont work, but the yanks are going to use it as casus belli

…having said that, my money is on the yanks turning on themselves before they get kinetic with us

        Stay strong hosers

Remember, just because the USA and Russia are all in favour of it that doesn’t mean Alberta separatism is a bad idea. It’s a terrible idea no matter what they say.

The “stay” petition significantly outperformed the “leave” petition.

It doesn’t even matter, though. The UCP would never actually do a referendum. Thier whole playbook is based on Sabre rattling Ottawa. If you actually have to lift your skirt, the mystery is gone. All polling shows a referendum wouldn’t even be fucking close. Once that’s done, what Sabre you gonna rattle?

The political value lies in the threat, and the threat only carries the weight of the potential of coming to pass.

The “stay” petition significantly outperformed the “leave” petition.

And there is no indication that the stay petition cheated, while there is strong evidence that the leave petition broke a few laws to get their number.

…perhaps, but this a particularly vulnerable time for us to be doing that - sedition charges and jail time will cool some of the hotter heads, and once the yankee money dries up when they descend into civil war 2.0, this will be a dead issue

          Lol.

I appreciate the fear and concern…

But locking people up for sedition would make things 100x worse. It turns a poorly defined and completely abstract boogeyman with complete abstract “victims of federal government overreach” into a concrete boogeyman with real victims.

There currently is no problem… but this is a Trump-in-Iran level of diplomacy suggestion.

You “appreciate the fear and concern?”

the current boogeyman is not “completely abstract”, it is yankee and russian funded destabilization programs tragetting Canada, likely aiming to use a failed referendum as casus belli to go full Ukraine on us

There is a problem, and you appear to be part of it

There is no problem. Since talk of the petition to leave started, support for leaving has GONE DOWN. The more people talk about it, the LESS Albertans want to leave. USA and Russian interference is having a net negative effect.

The Boogyman that scares AB people into wanting to separate is Ottawa. Russia and the US are failing to convince Albertans to leave, because there is nothing concrete to argue that they should. All of the beef with Ottawa is abstract.

If Ottawa starts arresting people for sedition, then it won’t be the USA or Russia turning any tide, it will be Ottawa, making a completely idiotic and unforced error… handing the already-doomed “leave” movement actual tangible reasons to sway people.

Your plan provides Canada a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. I can’t fathom the depth of misunderstanding on your part that makes that seem like a wise thing to do.

It’s actually gross to invoke the name of a Canadian hero as your username and be pushing divisive pro-Russian propaganda.

You show up and your solution to a non problem is to start plucking people off the street for anti-gocernment activities like the fucking KGB and expect anyone to buy it?

                  Get fucked.

Premier Danielle Smith claims that the leader of the separatist movement is a gun shop owner, perhaps if the liberal government didn’t target 2.5 million citizens after a mass shooting involving illegally smuggled firearms things would be different.

Me and every other PAL holder I know are genuinely quite livid by the situation, but what do I know it’s not like we mass ban thousands of car models after every large scale accident, eh?
