is anyone in Canada making a bourbon-like whiskey?

        Yes

yay! One’s in stock near me, and we’re already out near there tonight so it’s easy. I may have to try new things.

It’s weird that I grew up in the okanagan - picked grapes for summer cash; ugh - but I never figured they’d do Corn in Vernon. Then again, Shelter Point (yowza) opened up a few meters from the house of a grad-class chum, so I have a trend of moving away from places just as they’re getting ‘spiritual’. 🙃

Looking forward to trying the BRBN tonight if the BCLDB has it. Thanks for the pointer!

There are a few that I have come across, but they don’t actually taste like bourbon. The ones I have found and tried are 51% corn and 49% barley. Because of the high barley content it tastes more like Canadian whisky than American bourbon.

Most of my bourbon consumption was for old fashioneds, so my replacement for that has been 100% rye whisky. Lot 40 and Canadian Club, specifically.

Bridgeland Distillery in Calgary has a Taber Corn whisky which is at least reminiscent of bourbon. Not the real deal, but a fair substitute.
