    America:Europe::Carthage:Phoenicia

    when you have a colonial project eventually you’ll make a colony so profitable it will shift the center of your empire. the indigenous collectivist elders i’ve talked to have generally been of the same mind that Europeans (including Americans) are a young people who refuse wisdom when it is presented to them because like toddlers we refuse to look at the world with open eyes, and instead rely on short term decision making. hopefully as America demonstrates itself to be an empire in decay we can look towards Pan-continental movements (Pan-Americanism, Pan-Africanism, Pan-Europeanism, Pan-Pacifica) to learn how past post colonial societies transitioned from subjugation to collective beneficiallity without creating false hierarchies based on national identity. however, i haven’t been impressed with certain groups’ ability to look outward for new (to them) wisdom rather than only looking within their local milieu for the same rigid dogmas they already practice, just with a new veneer

    someday though, the world must be free and the greatest law of all will come from the land, and not from a hereditary succession of power. there is a 16k year old war against the land. the rich and the powerful convince us that they can win with more power, but the earth itself cannot lose this war. it is unfathomably powerful. to fight against it, as the petrostates do, is folly. only those who fight alongside the land, to protect our water, heritage, and rights, can be on the winning side

    Fun fact: the American Legion was founded after WWI and was intended to keep returning American veterans from becoming communists. Legionnaires were employed in their Legionnaire uniforms as strike-breakers, until public outcry forced them to stop … wearing their uniforms while strike-breaking.

    If you include probation and parole, you don’t even need to limit it to NATO nations. It’s 300% bigger than anything else. It’s over 300% bigger than the Soviet GULAG system at its height and they were holding Nazis in there.

    Edit: downvoters just hate my instance I guess

      When you compare it to the labour participation rate population of the US the number is almost 1% of the work force. 99 people have normal jobs and 1 of them is a modern slave.

        Or without turning some into Nazis. Gangs are prevalent in high-security prisons and often these gangs are racially segregated with the white ones being neo-Nazis. If you’re placed in one of these prisons as a white guy your only options may be either to stay unaffiliated and be outcast and vulnerable to attacks by other prisoners, or join the neo-Nazi gang for protection. It’s fucked up.

          I’ve known a few people who had to do that who were definitely not nazis.

          Its not a good thing to do, but the thing about sitting at the table with Nazis doesn’t really count if you’re shackled to the table.

          Also, not true in every part of the american prison system. Different states differ massively. None of them are pleasant, but like police departments; they all have their local flavor. NYPD doesn’t use gas weapons and makes up for it in other ways, Portland fogs the city, Atlanta are all puppyboys the… I want yo say Dakotas? Those cops generally like water cannons and freezing temps. Chicago is pretty up front about just being the toughest gang, their torturers actually trained the cia’s guys, and the LAPD likes their guns, their operators, their fire, and sometimes just blowing up a neighborhood to keep subversive elements on our toes.

          The prison system is no different. Or rather, as different.
