Fish specifically contains fats and oils that are going to be boiled from microwaving and sprayed into the environment as result, making everyone’s day much worse.
You can do it in your microwave, if you want. But doing it in a communal microwave is unkind to those who share the space. There are other foods that stink, but fish is special.

You most certainly are lucky, given I learned this lesson from my roommate in college. It took days to get the odor out of the flat.
