The man then holds up all but one finger and asks “Am I holding up 10 fingers?” to which they respond “No”, “Non”, “No”, “Nein”.

“Yes” “Oui” “Sí” “Ja” sounds like “Yes we see ya”

All of their “yes” responses together sound like “Yes, we see ya.”

In related news, I was way too old when I learned that the Ouija board is named after oui and ja, which are “yes” in French and German.

I’ve heard that it named itself, and the oui+ja interpretation is a false etymology. This is also what’s written on Wikipedia at the time of posting this comment https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ouija#Etymology

Now I am imagining it called Ouinein to align with the Yes / No on the board.

Ha! Imagine having to pronounce it, “Weeyah” to align with the respective languages

Yeah, in the US, I’ve always heard it pronounced “wee-gee.” Of course, these were the same people convinced nerds playing TTRPGs were worshiping Satan.

I like this variant (note, I’m slightly biased):

And Englishman, a Frenchman, an Israeli, a Spaniard and a German are sitting in a room when a man enters and asks, “Can you see me?”

They respond: “Yes.” “Oui.” “Ken.” “Si.” “Ja.”
