I got a Henson single blade years ago and I’m still on my first box (of 100) blades. It’s delightful.

Podcast ads finally got me to try a safety razor awhile back. Turns out they are actually pretty good.

I was going to link the SNL triple track razor parody commercial from 1975. But oddly it’s not on YouTube. I guess it hits too close to home for advertisers.

No no no! What are you guys DOING??? Stop shaving! I haven’t shaved in years! Sometimes I trip over my beard, but when I walk into a room shirtless, covered in honey, people notice. I walk in, hold up a stick and yell “I DO NOT RECOGNIZE YOUR AUTHORITY! THIS ESTABLISHMENT HAS NOW BEEN BOARDED BY THE VIKINGS!!! RAAAAWWWWRRRRR!!!”

And suddenly starbucks gives you free drinks! Also, if they don’t, you burn the tinderbox to the ground. Ghosts and all. They know it’s coming. They know there’s some random vikings out there in the world, and one day they’ll ransack your building if you don’t give them free spoils.

Then one day as a viking is laying claim to his new domain, a pirate walks through the front door. Assisted by canon fire from outside. That’s when you know it’s on! Because Blackbeard don’t fuck around with razors either! My god! Why are you people shaving! Go steal a boat! Or go steal a house! Why are you applying to be an accountant???

I still use an old gillette because somebody gifted me a pack of 100 blades but if I had to choose my own I hear safety razors are really popular rn.

Yep I bought the youtube ad safety razor and a blade sample pack, it’s been great. I’m paying 8€ for a pack of 100 blades instead of 3€ per cartridge lol

I manage to slice my face occasionally with cartridge razors, I fear what I’d do to myself with a safety razor.

I cut myself more often with a cartridge razor than a safety razor.

The blades in the cartridge razors are so dull, and there’s so much slack where they wiggle, I push too hard to get them to do anything. With the safety razor I just set it on my face with no pressure

I use a Henson mild and its pretty idiot proof, as long as you use some halfway decent blades, don’t use too much pressure and don’t move it in a sawing (as opposed to scraping/shaving) motion you’ll be fine. I didn’t cut myself once while I was learning to use it, only when I took a flight and had to settle for some shitty blades from the local pharmacy did I get some weepers.

The one I have doesn’t leave that much blade exposed so it’s about the same risk of cutting yourself as a cartridge razor. Seems like they’ve got this figured out for the most part.

I do like the idea of using a less expensive solution with less plastic. Maybe I’ll look into it again.

The key is that with safety razors you don’t press down on them and you move slower, then you’re golden

Same. I call them “cartridges” for lack of a better word but they last over a year each for me and still haven’t shown the “time to replace” indicator.
