Well… that’s what atheists made it about… When christians ‘celebrate’ his death, they don’t really celebrate his torture and death, but they celebrate the offer he made for the sins of humanity.
OK then. Why is their symbol the cross, especially ones with Jesus nailed to it, when he paid for everyones’ sins" in Gethsemone via his great suffering?
Then ya’ll celebrate how he was murdered. Really good death cult you’ve got! Completely ignoring the personal sacrifice part and glorifying the suffering and death part!
Woosh doesn’t even begin to describe Christian stupidity.
The cross symbolizes the sacrifice. Nobody celebrates his death, it is only the fact that he saved humanity with his sacrifice that gets celebrated, and the cross symbolizes this sacrifice.
The cross is a constant reminder of what Jesus went through to save you. The only feeling it is meant to evoke is thankfulness to Jesus and a reminder of how much suffering he saved you from.
I’m just trying to explain what christians believe, because it is getting misrepresented here, causing distorted views on christianity.
Thats what they taught you. Its still insane to use the symbol of torture as the symbol of a religion. It shows exactly the values this religion espouses: violence, torture, and death. Saying it’s a “constant reminder” is exactly what the institution wants; you remember that if you don’t do what we say, you’re gonna be tortured even after death.
they celebrate the offer he made for the sins of humanity.
Westerners really don’t like the idea of self-sacrifice. The idea that someone might martyr themselves for a greater cause is anathema to how a consumerist culture operates.
The idea that you’d want to praise someone and celebrate them for speaking truth to power right up until his last moments on Earth is utterly alien to folks who only care about accumulating wealth and leisure time.
Jesus watching people celebrate his torture and death with candy eggs and bunnies.
Jesus watching people wearing a sculpture of his fucking torture, dead and corpse.
Yep, all normal.
That’s actually the day of his zombie resurrection. The day of his torture and death is referred to, horrifically, as “Good Friday”.
For the pedantry: when that term was coined, “good” also meant holy. The day was effectively named “Holy Friday” which makes much more sense.
Alas, the term stuck even as the word’s meaning shifted.
Bro
I could not keep Good Friday and Black Friday straight until I was in my teens
But no, it makes perfect sense that the good sounding one is when a guy died, and the bad sounding one is a good time to do Christmas shopping… /s
I love how a meme about marathons is degenerating into a religious discussion…
I think that part he’d like.
It’s the part where we do drone strikes and erect torture prisons, festooned with Jesus iconography, that he’d more likely recoil at.

Nice assumption of me being Christian.

Not at all what it is portraying. I don’t even understand how you get to that conclusion.
It were the priests that didn’t believe Jesus was telling the truth that killed him. Humanity killed him. Not God.
