Edit: For context, @db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com discovered that the developer of Tesseract had discretely banned numerous instances and disguised it as a server error. This included more heavily leftist instances, but also blahaj.zone. More recently, it was discovered that they had also been suppressing individual users, phrases, and communities that criticize power tripping on fedi.
Needless to say, I implore non blahaj.zone users to drop the Tesseract client (support for the client has already been dropped for blahaj). So called “liberals” like this who call out “extremism on both sides” are an insult to the values they claim to be upholding.

I mean basically the same thing happened from the opposite side with Mastodon clients. Go on one of the phone app stores, find a mastodon client and look at older negative reviews to see if there are any about “blocking the largest mastodon instance” or something worded similarly. Several clients did it.
The reason? Gab at one point changed their backend so they were just a Mastodon instance, which made them technically the largest Mastodon instance. Several Mastodon client devs explicitly blacklisted Gab from their clients because of their far right nonsense in response.
I’m certainly not going to use Tesseract over them having a blocklist like that, but then I specifically picked the Lemmy instance I did because they only block instances in extreme cases. One instance on the blocklist, and that one only because it was entirely unmonitored and unmoderated and was being used to distribute actual CSAM (as in not drawings) as a consequence of being totally unmoderated and unmonitored.
It’s actually kind of sad, because some of the features like the MBFC integration sound genuinely useful, maybe someone else will add them to a different client.
MBFC is a bit controversial just fyi https://lemmy.ml/post/50448296
