Pretty sure the Duke wouldn’t mind being with a trans woman.
Oh body modification is evil? Tell me more about your protests against dentures, breast implants and lasik.
and circumcision?!
Also … pretty sure the Bible doesn’t say shit about whether or not you can change your gender.
100% this.
The Bible never says anything about transgender people (other than Jesus’ command to love them unconditionally).
No one is objecting to transgender rights for religious reasons.
Instead, what they’re doing is fishing through the Bible trying to find anything they can twist around to justify their bigotry.
As the Bible doesn’t say anything about abortion. Not a word. As it has to be cherrypicked and deformed to condemn homosexual love.
Bigotry is Christianity for those who don’t care about the Bible.
Actually there’s two bits in numbers that touch on it. The first time in Exodus 21 was how much restitution is owed if a woman is struck hard enough to miscarry. (This passage is often purposely mangled in translation to being something about “dropping an apple” or other nonsense, for obvious reasons) The second, in Numbers 5, describes what was likely an abortion procedure administered by a rabbi.
There are also multiple points at which it is clearly stated that ensoulment happens after the body is formed, all phrased different ways. Gen 2:7 says Adam was not given a soul until God gave him his first breath. Job 33:4 says that “the spirit of god has made me, and the Breath of the almighty has given me life”, once again stating that the body is formed before the breath of life is given. There are many other points, but you get my meaning. The most literal way of reading this is that ensoulment happens at the first breath, but I think a more reasonable interpretation is that “breath of life” is metaphorical and therefore life should be considered to begin at the quickening, when the baby’s body and brain are developed and they start moving around.
I haven’t found any part of the Bible so far which states that life begins at conception, but I’d be happy to know is any Bible quote that supports the pro-lifer position at all. There’s lots of contradiction in that book to discover.
People who are against abortion use verses like “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5). But it’s the same thing as Genesis 2 or Job 33: these texts are poetry, not literal descriptions. It’s a treason of the Bible to use any of them in the debate about abortions.
Exodus 21 is about miscarriage, so unusable in the abortion debate.
Numbers 5 is a very obscure text. I often see it in the debate on abortion, but the woman is not clearly pregnant in the text. You have to twist some verses to make that text an abortion. It’s an oath ceremony, and the physical signs are God’s judgment, not God’s punition.
The bible is very clear that Eve was trans.
God: creates a woman from a man
Only thing the bible says about trans people is things like:
Love thy neighbor
Unto the least of these (which isn’t the way it looks when using the modern English interpretation of “least”)
Thou shall not bear false witness
Let he without sin…
Jesus ain’t got nothing to say about trans people in specific, but plenty to say about how we’re supposed to treat erybody.
Old Testament? That shit might cast some dubious shade at gay men if you want to stretch things, but it never says anything about trans people, even factoring in they wouldn’t be called that.
Nah, I haven’t been Christian since I was old enough to think for myself, but I read that shit multiple times, and multiple versions. Ain’t nothing in any of it that says it’s okay to be a bigot.
American Christians’ two most hated hot takes on fellow humans seem to be what Jesus says about marginalized groups and what the Statue of Liberty says about marginalized groups.
It’s what makes me so damn untrusting of any organized religion, especially monotheistic ones. People will twist anything to mean what they want
and arguably the Aramaic is confusing about whether it means gay or not very hospitable
Exactly!
@Quokka image cropped and saved for next time one of my dear friends goes on an extended rant
