    Lol…

second quarter financial results where Cineplex swung to a profit and higher overall revenues on box office draws like The Odyssey and Michael, in addition to younger audiences embracing breakout horror pics in Obsession and Backrooms.

    So…

    1. The Odyssey, shot on film with practical effects by the biggest director of his generation.

    2. Michael, about the largest popstar ever

    3. Obsession, cheap Indie film with practical effects

    4. Backreoms, cheap Indie film with practical effects

People are just tired of green screen mass appeal slop.

Give them the option of anything else, and people are desperate for that and are willing to put up with the movie theater experience again.

No one wants to pay $30 to watch a superhero movie that will be on streaming in a month and spends a third of it’s run time setting up projects that may never materialize.

The takeaway should be “start making better movies again”.

The best thing movie goers can do, is stop worshipping distributers like A24, most of “their” movies people love, were already made and winning film festivals before A24 even heard about them.

We need to start supporting the writers/directors/actors/crew who make these amazing films on shoestring budgets for almost no pay.

Not Uncle moneybags who buys it for a few million and then makes hundreds of millions back when people watch it in theaters.

Like, I’d hate to do the math for how many movies with the budget of Obsession/backrooms we could have gotten for a single Spiderman.

But large studios want a handful of movies everyone watches.

People are just tired of green screen mass appeal slop.

Except the latest Spiderman slop just made a billion faster than any movie in history and the number one TV this week is House of Dragon

Super glad you’re starting to realize what inflation is buddy…

20 years ago you could legitimately buy a $3 afternoon ticket to a movie.

Now people are legitimately dropping $20-30 for a single ticket…

Yes, gross sales will continue to go up, that is because they raise ticket price to compensate for low sales, which further depresses sales, requiring them to further raise prices.

        Like…

It’s not that what you’re saying is incorrect, you just don’t even realize you’re talking about a different topic.

Spiderman made 1.6 billion in less than two weeks. That is not inflation that is a measure of its popularity.

What ticket prices cost 20 years ago do not matter as that is not the context of this discussion. This discussion is what are people seeing now.

The latest spiderman has made more money than every movie you listed and they are contemporaries.
