This is appears to be a used sale hardware sale. Scams have existed for ages.
Also the nature of the module does not actually matter if performance characteristics are provided as advertised. The could ship cow shit for all I care is performance.
Oh wow. Someone really put the effort into this scam. Imagine putting the engine of a fiat punto into a ferrari.
You’re not wrong about it being a real effort, I doubt the cost of completely desoldering DDR5 chips and resoldering DDR4 chips is recovered in the used parts price unless they are doing this in high volume with professional, automated equipment.
As for the car analogy, DDR4 is almost as fast and efficient as DDR5 so it would be more like putting a Camaro engine in a Corvette and putting a custom engine cover on it to hide the fraud. Typical user won’t notice, but an enthusiast or expert will.
I mean, surely they’ll notice pretty immediately when the DDR4 just straight up doesn’t work with their DDR5 CPU and motherboard. The electrical connections aren’t the same!
Frankly, I don’t see why they bother with actual chips (DDR4 or otherwise) at all. If it’s not going to work anyway, why not just glue on rectangles of plain black plastic?
That’s what I was thinking.
None of this scam makes any sense.
