I saw STIV in the theater. I was 6. Whales are cool.
Did you have a whale of a time?
He was on LDS
Why no Undiscovered Country? Why???
IMO they should’ve re-released all 13 of the movies, make a whole month of it.
Its a lot easier to pick the four best episodes tho 😂
I would pair UDC with “Errand of Mercy”. I’m 99% sure that’s the episode where the Klingons are introduced for the first time.
Undiscovered Country was the first Trek film I saw in theatres. Very glad I had the chance. That ominous music over the opening credits had such an impact.
Star Trek V was the first in the theater for me. I was 7 years old.
That’s exactly the age I was for TUC. I remember what a big deal they made of the 25th anniversary at the time. And now it’s the 60th…
Can someone explain to me the pairing with seemingly random episodes? I’m not super familiar with the original series. Am I missing something?
Yeah, it’s anything but random. All the episodes chosen have elements and themes shared with the movie they’re paired with. In particular, Star Trek II is a sequel to Space Seed, the episode that introduces Khan.
Spoilers for films plus episodes
- Star Trek: The Motion Picture + S02E03 “The Changeling”, both have similar plots, an Earth space probe merges with an alien and causes problems.
- Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan + S01E22 “Space Seed”, the episode introduces “Khan Noonien Singh” who is ultimately defeated. The “wrath” of Khan is his revenge film. Basically the film is a sequel to the episode.
- Star Trek III: The Search for Spock + S02E01 “Amok Time”, the episode largely deals with Spock and Vulcan customs, the film has similar themes. It’s a weird pairing, but Amok Time is a famous episode. I suppose Kirk and Spock’s friendship is also a big theme in both.
- Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home + S01E28 “The City on the Edge of Forever”, both plots deal with time travel.
Yes, you are missing something, because you’re not familiar with the original series. You can watch it, or go see the the movies with the episodes and understand.
I’m not not explaining to be a dick, watching the episodes before the movies would be cool. Consider yourself lucky to have this opportunity.
I think it’s cool they’re also showing relevant episodes also.
I remember like several years ago in Toronto a theatre showed a few episodes of TNG for an event and it was awesome. seeing TNG on the big screen was just perfect.
Don’t include a link or anything, wouldn’t want to find out more
Dammit. This is tempting.
Nah it’s cool, we have Star Trek at home.
Pfff. You can’t fuck that bucket
Tell me how you haven’t been able to produce a new movie in the series without telling me you haven’t been able to produce a new movie in the series.
Is this USA only?
