It’s a bit conspiratorial, but I am wondering if these companies use data deletion requests as a way to validade their own data. You send an email with some basic data about yourself, they pretend they deleted it, and then they use that request to consolidate loose ends.
What a shitshow … but not unexpected given the utter lack of enforcement this privacy aspect of our lives has.
At one time I started cataloging the absurd required permissions that essential mobile applications have, things like banking, telecom, utilities, government and many others.
The sheer volume of data harvesting behind the scenes is mind boggling.
They probably didn’t actually delete it
The article basically says as much, check out this careful wording from BeenVerified:
“It appears your person report has already been removed from our Person Search results,” read its initial response. “In addition, we have removed the requested phone number and email address from our search results. This change should be reflected within 24 hours.”
Removed from search results is not the same as removed from all records and information sales.
