Meh. I have different levels of notifications. Email is silent. Lemmy is silent. Emails from my dad get a very small chirp. Signals from my sister however blare Turbo Rider.
notification management should be fucking taught in kindergarden
I have no idea what my ringtone is and I’m scared of it finding out.
I would go a step further. Block notifications from the vast majority of apps. Besides messaging apps, there are very few apps that I need to see any notifications for. Even for apps like Lemmy, replies and DMs can be seen when the app is next opened, no need to bother me before I’m going to open the app anyway.
I’ve even got WhatsApp blocked. My wife and closest family are on Signal anyway. Any messages on WhatsApp can wait. I never go longer than 30 to 60 min without checking my phone anyway so I’ll check into WhatsApp from time to time. So far, without notifications, nothing bad has happened for the past year.
It’s a fun little surprise when I open Lemmy and see who I’ve pissed off yesterday. I’d hate to have a notification for it, that’d give me anxiety.
100% that. Only a few selected people as well as emergency apps are allowed to send any notifications. Nothing else is important enough to drag me out of whatever I’m currently invested in.
This is the way
I agree with this wholeheartedly
I used to love using audacity to clip up MP3’s and turn them into ringtones. Nowadays I wouldn’t be caught dead with my ringer on
My phone was on silence mode since i started using it years ago. I was very surprised when i heard random notification sound after i accidentally turn off silent mode, and i was like wtf is that sound come from
I had a phone without the “chip” in it so I could make 911 calls.
Then one day, almost a decade ago, it started to make noise. It was TRUMP testing out the emergency broadcast system.
I broke the phone in half and threw it away. Thanks Donald for using my stuff AGAINST me.
It won’t happen again.
imagine the restraint on corpos to not let ads in apps bypass the sound settings entirely
Nothing would get me to uninstall an app quicker. There has been a few apps that I wanted silent and minimized notifications from but didn’t have the separate notification category for their ads so I couldn’t turn those off. Ended up turning off all notifications for the app and said screw it.
DON’T. GIVE. THEM. IDEAS.
I would make an excellent CEO eh
Depends, how into kids are you?
is that a thing? Nothing has ever bypassed my phone being on silent other than my alarm
it is not, thus restraint
it is not yet
Guess I’m the only one who still uses ringtones. They’re mostly from EarthBound, except when Halloween comes around I’ll sometimes use the plucking sound from It Follows soundtrack for phone rings.
i have one of the Lethal Company radio songs as my ringtone, the whimsy fills me with joy and i like to think that now and then someone hears it and goes “lmao is that the one dinky-ass penis-music lethal company track??”
Not the only one! Got a Galaxy phone that has such weak vibration that I switched back to audio cues. Mostly video game noises, some sound effects. When having an active conversation, I put it on vibrate so the sounds dont get annoying.
I used to be a “silent phone” person until I discovered scheduled do-not-disturb. I like being able to hear when someone is calling me, I just don’t want to hear it at certain times/days.
you can also set certain things to ignore do-not-disturb, like calls from someone who’d only call you at night if it’s an emergency.
If someone is calling me i dont want to talk to them. If they know me they know i dont want to be called
Kids today will never know the horror of having to sit through Crazy Frog TV commercials.
God damn I hate when I forget to turn off the sound again
