They’ve quadrupled solar output since your chart ends, tripled wind, 40% more nuclear, and coal hasn’t increased for two years.
As a percentage of energy used coal is decreasing, when looking at electrify its fossil fuels are 58% now, down from 81% in 2012.

That’s the big scam about “energy transition”: it’s miserably failing. Govs put up target in % of energy generation to show fossil fuel numbers going down.
But the goal was never to achieve a ratio. The goal was to actually reduce emissions, eventually down to 0. They keep increasing. We’ve barely slowed down the yearly growth.
Every year, we get farther and farther from the hope of keeping Earth survivable for humans.

China still uses a LOT of coal but clearly has been going very big into renewables, mainly solar

I have a tinfoil hat theory that the incumbent manufacturers have seen this coming and are basically trying to cash out before their cartel is demolished by cheap competition
And/or trying to use the cash to buy a technical/regulatory moat.
Idk what form that would take for memory, but it’s a pretty standard tactic for big tech, so I could see them convincing themselves it’s possible even if it’s not.
FCC approval is probably the most viable moat.
