    Say what you will.

I liked solo, a difficult story to shoehorn in, a tricky script to weave without much retcon, still a great story and surprisingly good Han (lacking only some darker hair dye) and Lando (no notes; outstanding)

I loved rogue one, and not just for the perfect ending.

Andor was perfection tarnished only by the knowledge it was ending.

TFA was derivative but still good. TLJ killed the sequels by killing the story and setting up the third movie as all but unmakeable. It’s maybe killed anything else after it, and I pin the lack of a 10-11-12 series on that mess.

Mando was good until it focused too much on the child. It could have been Caine, traveling the universe and helping people in need while catching bad guys. 81 episodes at least.

Obi+wan was fucking incredible and, like Andor, only tarnished by ending.

These were, on balance, good years. We’re gonna get Abrams or Berman, and know what franchisicide looks like.

Mr Lucas says so right at the start: Star wars, later known as “a new hope”, always had massive product tie-in. Every production after that can but match the naked greed of the first.

Good? There hasn’t been a good Star Wars movie in the last 14 years.

I thought Revenge of the Sith was pretty good. I actually liked Attack of the Clones. I’d also forgive anyone for saying Return of the Jedi or even The Empire Strikes Back was the last good Star Wars movie.

Personally, I think Star Wars itself is the only great Star Wars movie. The rest are just sequels (or prequels). I will admit that Empire was good and that Jedi was fun, but The Phantom Menace was fun, and it gets shit on for it. And I liked the other two prequels.

At least we can agree all the sequels from this generation were shit. I actually enjoyed parts of The Last Jedi, but mostly Luke at the end. The gravity from the bombs in space to “oh I guess Leia has been a Force user this whole time” annoyed TF outta me. And, while I do enjoy Daisy Ridley’s and Adam Driver’s work, I really don’t like anything in the sequels associated with Rey or Kylo.

Wha? How about Rogue One? We might be of different generations, but I didn’t find any of the prequels enjoyable at all. The Force Awakens was a fun remake of A New Hope, but the two following were absolutely terrible. The Last Jedi destroyed any chance of the third movie saving the trilogy… Rogue One was fantastic…

Rogue One was an incredible idea to take a single line and expand a story, and then use that later on to develop the Andor series was brilliant and changed how I see Star Wars. I’m actually surprised that not only was Kennedy involved, but supposedly was key in making Andor get completed. I can’t understand how that occurred and yet other train wrecks happened.

I liked the end of Rogue One where it tied into the beginning of Star Wars. The rest was just okay. It may have been the best new Star Wars movie, but the bar is very low, and I wouldn’t watch it again by choice.

My son is a big cinephile, and he tells me that the first three chapters of Star Wars are undergoing a critical reevaluation, and are generally considered to be pretty good these days. It’s probably in response to the awful last chapters, which make the first three look like masterpieces.

It’s more that the Clone Wars and other animated series filled in the gaps and made the odd decisions in the movies feel more justified.

But I never watched those, so they still seem like bad movies to me.

Also due to people who loved it as kids growing up and retaining their nostalgic love
