I suspect that the explanation is that tankies are a lot more authoritarian than they’re socialist/communist. And I bet that a lot of self-proclaimed communists are fakes, anyway.
You see, it doesn’t matter how authoritarian the state is, because once everybody is equal (5 years, 10 tops) it will simply “wither away”. And then, comrade, we will all be truly happy, forever.

If we assume that the most vocal ones are actually Russian agitators and the rest are dupes, then it all makes perfect sense.
