I think the film would have been much “better” if we showed the horror and devistation that we caused. American media purposefully hides the death and destruction that we do, and paints ourselves as the good guys.

I really agree. For genuinely talking about the senseless horror of those bombings, especially the callous afterthought that was Nagasaki, I prefer Dan Carlin’s podcast series.

On the one hand, yes, it’s different people. That said, this particular movie specifically chose to hide the damage to victims and solely focus on the emotions of the man who enabled the tragedy. I’m all for stories of people trying to redeem themselves, but deliberately ignoring the victims was a bad choice, imo.

        Really?

…Shit, I guess I need to actually see this film before I talk about it. I assumed it was mere Oscar-bait and just absorbed information about it osmotically. I wasn’t even mad at them, just thought oh, they found a guy who looks exactly like David Byrne, of course they wanted him for their Oscar bait film.

Those are not the choices I would have made if I was telling a story about the guy who built the bomb. I would have probably drawn a lot more from sources like Barefoot Gen, myself.
