Just like tankies supporting the fascist regime in Russia, those who cheer on the Iranian regime just because it’s on the other side of a conflict with the regimes running the U.S. and Israel need to broaden their mentality beyond a simplistic notion of good vs. evil.
I’m reminded of Iraq. Saddam Hussein was objectively an evil tyrant, but the net amount of death and suffering the people went through in the decades following the US invasion, was far greater than anything he put them through.
A casual glance at the conservative sub Reddit had loads of comments on this to the effect of “well, when your enemy is congratulating you, you should be concerned!”.
Yet those same comments were distinctly absent when Russia says the same about republicans.
And it begs the question that we agree on enemies.
