sh.itjust.works was down too. I just switched instances which is the point. It’s not supposed to fail over, it just can’t be taken down because there are more instances. I sure wish my client could auto fail over to one of my other accounts grab posts though.

I mean, in theory, the folks admining .world could create their own fail-over. But hosting costs money and redundancy costs even more money and this continues to be - at its heart - a labor of love by a handful of charitable admins, not an enterprise level app looking to maximize uptime for revenue.
To get Fediverse to switch instances or substitute a working mirror, you’d have to pivot away from the inherently decentralized nature of the application. At a minimum, you’d need an endpoint that worked as a switch between communities.
Like, its possible, in the same way Torrents have a single entry point that ties out to a semi-unreliable cluster of hosters. But it is not (to my knowledge) how Fediverse is currently designed.

So sh.itjustdoesnot.works
Sh.itjust.works, unless it’s CloudFlare.

I never tried it so i don’t know: i can just login on another instance with my account made on the instance that is down?
No, but the fediverse doesn’t go down just because one instance is down.
You would need multiple accounts (one per instance), but you could just switch instances if you had that set up
It does when the majority of communities are on one server. This one included.
No.
