Young people in Britain will soon be offered the chance of a “gap year” through a new paid program in the armed forces, the government announced Saturday.
Ffs Labour, fix the issue that there are not enough jobs, otherwise these “transferable skills” aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on.
Oh the university system has completely broken down due to the last 10 years of fucking them over? Let the armed forces train them. That’ll fix employment!
You hate the army training, and that’s fine. It does provide some instruction on dress, deportment, physical exercise and hygiene, that many modern kids lack. It’s like a finishing school, now. Knowing how to work as a team and perform basic first-aid is just a bonus.
Its kinda hillarious that you assume there’s a lack of jobs because young people supposedly don’t know those things, or that making individuals more competitive will create more jobs. That’s not how any of this works.
I said that after the university system was destroyed, that offering this (in my opinion, weak and divisive) alternative isn’t going to help create more jobs, which is what is sorely needed.

Where did I say that?
