Seems useful at times, I had a game start up in Chinese recently, and had to use Google translate from my phone camera to figure out how to change it back to English.
As someone who’s never had a problem “being the product” I’ve since changed my tune thanks to AI.
The less software I have spying on me, the better.
(I’m sure they’re not straight up spying but you have to be screen grabbing / recording to make this work)
Seems neat, though I don’t have a use for it.
It’d be much more helpful to me if it just used those OCR boxes to provide mouse-over dictionary lookups via yomitan rather than a translation.
Right now I use Google Lens for that, but that means I’m sharing selected text into a dictionary app or chatgpt, or gambling on Google search just giving me the JP->EN definition with no prompting besides the word itself.
I’ve literally never had a use for something like this.
Oh i have this is gonna be awesome for untranslated games
Yeah, it’s definitely more for a specific groups of people, such as those who play old untranslated emulated titles and such.
Hm, I see. Like old Japan exclusive titles. Haven’t thought about that.
A bit weird to implement it as Decky plugin then, because basically everything on Steam is available in English. You can play non-steam games on a deck
Its basically for emulators
I’ve also run into games on steam that specifically failed to identify my language on Linux. I can generally tell what options I need to pick to change a language back to English, but some langauges like Chinese and Korean are difficult to to navigate.
