Vegans can eat just about anywhere. Feel bad for the carnivore friend who just has to stay hungry until you see a roadkill animal.

This one time roadtripping, my vegan buddy stopped 4 separate times for a snack, while I didn’t see so much as a squirrel pancake for 14 hours. Unfair!

I refuse to make fun of dietary restrictions after spending five years as a waiter rolling my eyes at gluten free people and then developing a gluten intolerance.

The universe is a tricky bitch. It gave me a literal pain in the ass.

You can be annoyed by gluten bad gluten free while recognizing the real pain of celiacs.

Just because it isn’t a visible disease does not mean everyone is in the right.

I dislike the disregard for vegans in the post, still.

I once had a buddy with Celiac’s, it was interesting trying to find a restaurant that worked for us both. The tide of hipsters wanting everything gluten free was a godsend!

FYI you should use punctuation, such as a period, at the end of a sentence to let your readers know the thought is complete.

Nah I guarantee NOBODY is going through the gluten free diet unless they really believe there might be a chance they’re allergic. And you have to go gluten free for a bit to see if you are.

I know a case like that. He was unfortunate enough to have doctors that were unable to diagnose him properly. When he started the diet in his thirties and his absolutely debilitating health condition got a lot better in so many ways, it was such a relief!

But also, there are people who are not celiacs but do have an intolerance, and the diet is worth trying if someone thinks it may be their case.

It’s possible to be delibitated and not know why. Until you stop eating gluten and get better. You should watch House MD, House is always using the treatment as the test. He tries something and sees if the patient gets better. Many of those patients are dying and he still doesn’t know what they have until he tries a treatment.

I remember a medical friend rolling his eyes at the show when it was airing, because usually he could guess what the end diagnosis could be from the symptoms. House was just really good at making the drama about the doctor interject and extend the eyeball time into the hour long episode

              ^ This.

              • There’s coeliac which is the most easily identifiable,
              • a generalised gluten allergy, which - last time i checked - needs you to stay off/stay on gluten consumption for a week leading up to a blood test
              • allergy to one specific grain like wheat, but not all gluten.
              • and there are people who just have really bad digestive issues but have found that going gluten free helps.

We should have more sympathy for people who have to grapple with this shitty, under-researched allergy.

I just don’t get why people think they’re allowed to be mad at someone for what they order. They would choose the yummy gluten snacks if they weren’t struggling to eat something good for them.

Blood test has poor reliability, and you have to eat gluten to get it which makes many people too sick to even get tested

The gold standard is a biopsy of the duodenum but again you need to be eating like 20g of gluten a day for a few weeks and many people get too sick after even a few milligrams

Neither diagnoses NCGS, non Celiac gluten sensitivity. The only test is to stop eating gluten.

What always sent me was the people who ordered gravy after telling me they were gluten sensitive…

Ain’t no good prokaryote 'cept one that’s enslaved or dead. Those freaky little bastards don’t even have organelles or a nucleus. MRSA, Botulism, Anthrax…we’ve been at war for billions of years. Long will I have been in the cold, cold ground before I recognize prokaryote rights.
