Is this loss

I’m sure that’s a reference to something, but I’m at a Loss to figure out what.
Not even on Lemmy can one escape the horrors of pattern recognition

A man can be himself only so long as he is alone; and if he does not love solitude, he will not love freedom; for it is only when he is alone that he is really free." ~ Arthur Schopenhauer

Our language has wisely sensed these two sides of man’s being alone. It has created the word “loneliness” to express the pain of being alone. And it has created the word “solitude” to express the glory of being alone. ~ Paul Tillich
Love these! Thanks for posting em 🥂

Why did you upload it in jpg?
Anyway, I wanted to inform you of the other better options like PNG and even SVG.
Here is the Forever Alone meme Traced In Inkscape and uploaded to Openclipart by Ramchand.
Id he more inclined to take your suggestion seriously if you weren’t a known prick

Who put a rock on a tripod?
The server should be the one dealing with this imo, I have my server set up so that it converts all images to webp.
Oh, embedding a high quality images is becoming challenging.
In fact, I started seeing more and more file/photo hosts automatically convert PNG files to jpeg.
Anyway, I guess there is nothing that can be done about it.
It’s not challenging, but why should everyone convert the images themselves when, if the admin desires, it could be done in an automated way?
Let me put it this way:
If you want the highest quality for normal users, you would go with PNG or SVG.
While if you want the highest savings on space, you would go with something like JPEG or WebP basically.
What I am talking about is how challenging it is to upload PNG or SVG files without conversion.
I support Fediverse admins choosing to convert all the images and videos to a compressed formats for sure. But I always look for the best quality if available.
WebP supports lossless compression too, and is more efficient than PNG and JPEG. You can also set the image quality level in Lemmy’s server config, I have it set to 95% for example. I believe converting images to WebP (and compressing them slightly or losslessly) should be the default, and if anyone wants to upload the original file, they can go for a 3rd party image host and upload it (whether PNG, SVG, whatever) there. Or, if you’re sharing a webcomic for example, you can take the link to the original file from its website and paste it into Lemmy directly, thereby saving space on your instance.
Slightly unrelated, but I just wish JXL was more widely supported, it’s the best image format out there, the only thing holding it back is software refusing to support it. Both Chromium and Firefox have JXL support behind a flag in their advanced settings.
Yeah, I agree with your comment here.
Don’t be a snake, be a worm.

Kill yourself.
Beep’s a dork but shut the fuck up, we don’t do that here
Holy shit there actually is a mod here? Why is beep still allowed to post when they are a universally hated shitbag?
😆 No, I won’t.
Kill yourself.
Nope.
Kill yourself
Switch your router on and then switch it off.
That will fix it.

Stop removing the artist’s tagline.
???
You have, once again, removed the artist’s name from the image. Note that in the OP’s version ‘LINSEDITION.COM’ is displayed in the bottom right, but you’ve cropped it off. Stop doing that.
I am asking why do you want me to stop?
Because it is wildly disrespectful to the original artist, coming close to you tacitly trying to claim credit for creating it, and makes it harder for people to find the original source, especially if someone quotes, crossposts, forwards or otherwise repeats your post.
It’s thoroughly obnoxious behaviour, you’ve been told that repeatedly, by many people. Just stop doing it.

Funny, but actually worse. Could you please take that down, or if you really insist on misattributing it, use your own username?
It helps the people who take the time to create comics we enjoy to eat and survive. These memes/comics are posted as adverts for their skills as much as they are for our enterainment.
We get free funny comics non stop. They get upvotes, people sharing, and exposure in return. That’s the deal.
Why do you even do this shit, you get massive backlash every time.
Because I hate the ugliness of advertisements that make the art it is attached to, look cheap and reduce the visual experience to promote a fucking name, website or a patreon.
There is already artists who create their art ad free(like Xkcd, Cat and Girl, Between Failures, Oglaf,…etc), so why shouldn’t all the webcomic artists do the same?
Attributions are not ads. I like knowing who made which art.
That is what links are for.
Just attach a link to the post and boom. More efficient way of indicating the source.
Links get lost when someone saves the image, metadata gets lost when someone screenshots the image and often isn’t preserved by the host anyway.
You do not provide links.
I do.
Why don’t you consider links advertisements? And attributing only in this way leads to people downloading the images and sharing them carelessly, without crediting the artist.
Ad is something you are forced to see. Hyperlink to author website are just a refrance which is not forced on you.
That is the difference which make one of them acceptable and the other not.
