I’ve joined the desktop gang. (Was in laptop gang)
Thanks everyone for sharing your experience, spending time validatung my conf and suggesting better ones.
Specs: Motherboard: Msi B650 gaming plus Cabinet: Corsair 4000D Processor: Ryzen 9600x GPU: Rx 9070 xt Memory: Gskill 16x2 6000Mhz SSD: Crucial P310 1tb Cooler: Deepcool AK620 G2
Need to add 4 additional fans (3top 1 on aircooler)
nice work getting all the stuff together! it’s not a fun time for that right now.
7+ hours of pure fun and little bit anxiety(first time building).
Unboxing, pushing in connectors and finally when rgb lit up. Lot of fun.
it is! especially when checking temps to see if you fucked up the thermal paste.
I was not worried about that. I did not know.
Now im worried thanks fellow lemming.
Do you happen to have any tips what range should i look at and what do i wanna do in case its not good enough?
hah, since you actually got a game running i think you’re fine. the cpu usually starts throttling before any damage is done, so the thing you’ll notice if something is wrong is that performance decreases after some play time.
the main thing to look for is if you get a massive spike in temp the instant you put the cpu under load. if you see temps climb over a few seconds that means the thermal mass of the cooler is wicking the heat away properly. another thing to check is whether changing the cpu fan speed changes how fast the cpu cools down.
if your temp doesn’t level out under load, or increases during idle, then your cooler is too small.
if you’re nervous anyway (as i was), thermal pads have gotten really good.
Cool. Then I think its fine it hovers around 50 idle and goes to 65-70 underload but quickly drops to 50 one demanding task finishes.
But I’ll keep it in mind. Thanks
hm, 50 at idle is a bit high but the load temps are fine. maybe tweak the fan curve a bit.
Now you only need a second monitor. Trust me, once youre used to 2 monitors, you can’t go back.
Im getting another monitor 2k 240hz. Probably use this one only when doing multiplayer, gets crowded 4-8 people in here.
2 memory dimms?! money bags over here

I’m sure your kids won’t mind going without dinner for a few months.
Haha
Right… that costs as much as an entry level gaming pc used to cost back in the early aughts.
You have a cabinet where your legs are supposed to go
You noticed. :D Ive a really long desk 10+ feet. After capturing the photo i moved it to right where i have leg room.
That makes sense, lol idk my attention is always on the most basic stuff like that but obviously you were aware of that
Probably monitor keyboard mouse are pushed closer to PC to stage the photo
Correct!
I feel like new pc builds are humble rich boy brags now. I know that’s not the intention here but never before have these builds seemed so far out of reach.
I wouldnt say that its a brag. Part of the reason I did it was because of recent developments and fear of loosing personal computing. Ive always wanted to build my gaming setup. And have postponed it so many times it felt out of reach but this time i just did it.
This is my first and hoping it will be with me for 8-10years.
On the bright side, hardware takes longer to become obsolete now, so at least it will likely last a long time and retain resale value.
Boutique PC building has been getting expensive since crypto hoarders bought up GPUs and scalpers drove the prices through the roof pushing it further out of reach. We had a couple early hits with the HDD and memory shortages due to factory damage, those were relatively short lived, crypto otoh was long-term. Now we’ve got LLM datacenters hoarding all the hardware along with manufacturers perfectly happy to allow scarcity to drive up prices.
On top of all that we’re seeing less-subtle suggestions to kill the personal PC and force everyone into a subscription model for everything.
Personally I’d wait for any dip in the market and build another good quality PC. I figure there’s not too many years left before they get their wish.
you can still build a nice rig with ddr3 and ddr4.
I’m actually getting a GTX 960 to crossfire with another 960 because I don’t want to spend $800 on a new card.
if I can squeeze out another 5-8 years out of them I’ll be happy.
Congrats! You are welcome join this gang too if you haven’t already! ;)
I did not know. Joined!
Nice! I’ve been wanting to switch to desktop for years (still on a gaming laptop). Hopefully one day I can do it.
Fantastic choice of game. PM me if you want to practice 1v1s!
Thanks for the offer. Unfortunately cannot. Net is bad, power shortage, and sailing the high seas.
Maybe some day. :D
Hey, nice build, just fyi, more fans can actually get worse! Check your gaming temps to see if you actually need more!
I’m running 3 front fans only on my 7800x3d + 6800x rig. Temps are somewhat high but manageable 👍
I did not know that, more could ve bad. Will research and analyze before adding. Thanks mate.
I still have to try games that will turn on my gpu fans. (Temp is pretty solid on the gpu) Downloading rn.
Its because of how airflow works, essentially you could make less fresh air hit the components and just run around in the case if you have too many. It is very case dependent but more often than not you do not want all fan slots occupied 😊
Edit check out GamersNexus for more info on that. Its kind of a meme at this point but they do have a lot of good build tips 👍
Cool. Will look it up.
So, which distribution did you pick?
I was trying to get cachyos but live stick was not booting. Could be issue with outdated BIOS firmware. (Cannot update now due to unpredictable power outage)
So tried endeavour it worked.
Will try to get cachy soon
Welcome to the club! Enjoy the freedom
Im feeling it. Setting everything to maxxx!!
What’s that game?
That’s Dark Souls 1
looks like a dark soul
