It’s amazing what a difference a little bit of time can make: Two years after kicking off what looked to be a long-shot campaign to push back on the practice of shutting down server-dependent videogames once they’re no longer profitable, Stop Killing Games founder Ross Scott and organizer Moritz Katzner appeared in front of the European Parliament to present their case—and it seemed to go very well.

I hope this becomes a success. I’ve stopped playing modern games a while ago. They absolutely suck due to the live service model

People complain that they hate live service models while failing to acknowledge that indefinite update/patch cycles is part of a live service model.

This. I miss the days when a game released, and MAYBE it got a bug fix patch, but ultimately it was complete and you could go ahead and play it. Today I see no reason to buy any game on release because either it’ll be a buggy mess, or in another few years it’ll have twice the content at half the price, or both. It makes it really hard to get excited about much of anything, unless I’m planning on playing it with friends who want it right away

I haven’t played all of those games but given the ones that I have, I’m reluctant to accept totk in that list, and offended by starfield

It was amazing yes. It had a few cutscenes that were excellent and anyone with any investment in the series would get pumped. Mechanics feel nearly perfect and not many games come close. And a number of other things, I’m sure you know them all.

But I will still never forgive Nintendo. They hate plot so much that continuity is nearly outright forbidden. I almost felt actual pain from the visual world building cues that were not only not expanded upon but many outright deleted. I want to play a game again and find new things I never noticed before, not find more things that were erased without any explanation or hint as to why. Don’t just leave me hanging with not only generic NPCs with low effort models forgetting me, but the guy that built my house after bringing him a literal entire forest too? It could have been a plot element or have a hint that it was time travel related and it would have been cool, but I cant help but feel like Nintendo is just building in a fuck you to the people that like analysing the lore or exploring the map looking for history clues.

Then the almost word for word duplicate cutscenes, the “oops all tutorial” trial chambers, being able to nearly effortlessly cheese everything with recall, the sheer volume of trials and koroks with largely disappointing returns on both, and I think even hestu forgets you now that I think about it, and the overall feel was just not quite there compared to botw.
Some things felt like they were made to accomodate people that hadn’t played BotW, but others seemed like they were made for people born before computers existed while ignoring that such a person couldn’t be expected to play a game more complicated than pong. Or trying to account for far too many incompatible edge cases and missing the mark on all of them. And inheriting the design mindset that led to the poor choices in the Oot and MM 3ds remakes.

Anyway I felt betrayed after BotW got my hopes up. Nintendo made my childhood then shat on it like my dad turned maga. I’m bitter and angry about it.

I wanted to like it. I really wanted it to resolve all of my issues with botw and allow me to forgive the unresolvable ones.

I put hours in and all I get is the feeling of putting 80 bucks in a single pull on slot machine that takes several days or weeks to show that I lost it all, but I watched a couple of cool video clips while it was spinning.

if it wasn’t clear, the cool video clips represent the parts of the game that I liked.

And i dont like Elden Ring or Nindendo, but those were all big releases.

I just find it funny when people complain about something and when given proof that they are not correct they start to move the goal post.

Ie. List that contains only small portion of recent non live service games --> “well i dont like some of them”

          Lies of P (2023) Hi-Fi Rush (2023) Dead Space Remake (2023) Stellar Blade (2024) Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II (2024)

The words before the list gave me the impression that the list was not meant to be just live service free games but good ones. If it’s meant to be just a list of big releases then sure. Intent and tone don’t always convey well over the internet.

Isint “good game” little vague description? Are you the president what is good?

And the point is that there are thousands of games to choose from, but you bitch that there are only live service shit on the market.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon (2023) Remnant 2 (2023) Rise of the Ronin (2024) Hades II (2025) Pragmata (2026)

I bitch about live stream games? When? And “good” was simply using the same word as you in an attempt to maintain some semblance of continuity in discussion which was apparently meaningless since you seem incapable of that, since the me in your head apparently gets bonus dialogue lines nobody else gets to see

It was utterly inexcusable when it came out as in at the time of its release, as well as when it came out as in the year they released a game not up to modern standards. Ignoring that modern standards have been declining…

Anyway one of my friends gave me shit for saying that so I’ll try to find time to see what it’s like now. What blows my mind is ‘update’ or ‘patch’ in the same sentence as a bethesda title without ‘unofficial community’ and/or ‘mod’ but apparently they even patched out out of bounds shop inventories you can just take. I would have expected paid mods and an anniversary edition that is a new full priced release but not that. I hope they reduced the amount of loading too.

I think I agree with your sentiment but why did you make a list of unrelated games of various levels of quality from god tier to dogshit abandonware?
