Started out environmentalism by fight ozone chemicals and acid rain. Letters to the paper, politicians and protest. It seemed to work. Old growth logging not so much. One of the problems I see is that everyone wants someone else to be responsible for changing. If everyone refused to drive to get to work, work would have to help fund transit and bike lanes and housing nearer to work. They don’t have to though because people have been convinced that spending thousands every year to commute to a job in a single occupant vehicle is something they prefer to do. Same as travel. Many people between 20 & 40 have travelled more in the last couple years than their great & grandparents have in their lifetimes. But they will tell you it is because they cannot afford to buy a house and air pollution isn’t that large and they don’t think cellphones or internet access account for any pollution whatsoever. But Boomers are evil because they worry about their investments. Anyone who has investments (and yes many Millennials & Gen Z have investments) worry about them and doesn’t want to see them trashed.
You understand that “work” isn’t “convincing” people to go to there, right? We HAVE to go to work, to earn money and have healthcare, so we don’t die. Few people have been “convinced” that commuting is their preference.
People could choose to live closer to where they work, so that they could get there on a bike or on public transit. Many instead choose to live in the suburbs where there’s no option other than driving.

Moving anywhere closer to work would make rent at minimum 65% of my pay check :(
My work is right off two major highways with no possibility of safely biking.
Our cities are not designed with anything other then cars in mind, often not even a sidewalk
