      Yes, but before 2000 it was used sparsely and in a dramatically different context than today. I suggest reading the Wikipedia page for “Normie (slang)”.

          to put it more politely:

          it started being used online in the early 2000s to describe an “outgroup”. 4chan was using it basically the same way as everyone else, except their ingroup is racist.

          even the wikipedia says as much. the disabled groups and the alcoholics used it to describe an outgroup.

          4chan did not invent the term. they just used it like everyone else did.
