Just because veterans have serious problems caused by their service does not make them victims of their wars. You chose to give your body to the State in service of their wars. I sympathize with your current struggles, I know they’re real, but you also gotta take responsibility for your part in the misery the AmeriKKKan army has brought upon the world. You could have chosen something else. It might have been painful, unpleasant, possibly lethal, but you could have chosen something else and not put your body on the line for the AmeriKKKan project.

And frankly, a lot of veterans have zero regrets or even reflection on their “”“service”“” and how it affected the world. Precisely, the line of shit that veterans sell is that they had no choice or did not have enough information to make an informed choice. Absolute horse shit. You made a bad choice. It’s indefensible.

I personally am willing to forgive veterans if they show themselves to be reformed, but you gotta understand that some people are never gonna forgive you for your “”“service”“” and they’re not even remotely wrong to take that position considering what your former comrades did to them, their families, their people, and you gotta learn to live with that. And I’m not out here to make that harder for you, but I can’t make it easy or painless.

You think I want to be one of a few people with universal healthcare in the US?

At one point you certainly did, and when veterans do apologism for their service, I start to doubt that they currently don’t.

Do you know how much it sucks to watch people you love die, because they don’t have healthcare and you do, because you gave your body to a country that didn’t fucking care?

    You’re doing the thing

You’re honestly terrible human if you think that taking any chance to escape abuse in such a way that protects someone from future harm, while having no knowledge of me or my service.

Look, as an abused kid, you know that the number one thing you want is to not continue the cycle of abuse, right? Sadly, joining the US military is one way of continuing the cycle of abuse. Think about all those kids with war injuries.

And yes, definitely the system is an abuser here too, of you and all those colleagues you saw mutilated and pissed away, but you became part of it.

I’m glad you’re out of it.

Sure, of course now I know this. As an 18 year old growing up in the represseive south where talk anout mental health would bring about harassment and more abuse? Ha. Good luck.

The point is that we have to realize that we all come from these fucked places. We’re all put in these paths because the system is shit. So sure, there are plenty of assholes like the op meme, but there are those of us raises hand that have come from trauma, lived through trauma, and continue to see trauma even without the added help of the military to juice the cPTSD.

At a certain point we should hold someone accountable for their actions, but an 18 year old who just wanted to escape? Let them lie man, not everyone is a murderous shitstain on the carpet.

As long as they’re doing their best, it doesn’t matter if they’re imperfect, as we all are.

            You are right.

I’m truly sorry that you were being abused, but joining the military was not a legitimate way to escape that.

Like you could have also escaped it by becoming a serial killer and getting yourself thrown in prison, and I wouldn’t support that either, although you would probably have done less damage as a lone serial killer than as part of the largest serial killing operation in the history of the world AmeriKKKa

They’re talking about being treated better for a shitty reason and watching others who need that treatment not get it because they suck less. I don’t think that’s shoot&cry. I’ve had that feeling without ever working for the state.

They’re talking about being treated better for a shitty reason and watching others who need that treatment not get it because they suck less.

It’s not just that single part of that single comment completely isolated from context. Like yes, if the quoted part was the only thing this user ever said, I would have no problem with it. Here’s a response from elsewhere in this thread. It and its responses should fill in the rest.

I made the case that post-service, I have free healthcare and others don’t. It sucks that this is the society we live in. We shouldn’t live in a fascist utopia like Starship Troopers where “Service means Citizenship.”

I don’t disagree with any of that. What I disagree is the overall thesis that “Nah, not all of us are going to sell you a line of shit.” (I said “excuses”, not shit.) You are, in this thread, selling me your excuses for joining. And it really didn’t take much pushback to get you going. So even if you’ve made some progress, you clearly have some pro-Empire baggage to work on.

Because my example was post service, showing that I get special treatment in a society that is unjust when it should be just for everyone? Hoping for universal healthcare?

Not at all. It’s because you centered your experience, how much it sucks for you to watch other people die. You gave your body to a country that doesn’t care for you. I absolutely insist on hammering this point home when veterans are in the room that y’all gotta learn that it’s not always about your misery.

So sorry that you think you’ve got it so hard, while reaping the benefits of the society that we all hate and no one will give an ounce to fix.
