On one hand, the censorship was always silly. On the other hand, the current trends in Germany probably mean they’re rolling back their Nazi regulations for all the wrong reasons.
That’s why I can’t take film/game censorship serious. The game didn’t change, just the stupid rules somehow. Similar to violence in old games like Doom where the BPjM changed their mind justified by the shitty graphics and sound compared to modern standards.
Additionally the whole “killergame” debate relating first person shooter games by “experts” and politicians was so stupid.I actually don’t know if the rules changed, did they? It was just that the publishers of the time weren’t ambitious enough to be sure they could prove in court that “These uses of swastikas are for the means of depicting Nazis in a negative light”. Much easier to just sidestep the analysis.
I haven’t looked further, if it is the case here, but social adequacy is a thing regarding evaluation of videogames since a few years: https://usk.de/usk-beruecksichtigt-bei-altersfreigabe-von-spielen-kuenftig-sozialadaequanz/
Sure, nobody should allow a game where nazi culture will be praised. But if they are allowed as bad guys, e.g. in Indiana Jones movies, it should also be allowed here.
Beside that, the Doom example and their argumentation in my last post is a real joke (and in my opinion symptomatic for the whole censoring arbitrariness).
You know as well as I, that I don’t have time to play it!
A prison then….
Return to Castle Wolfenstein immediately!
Campaign, multi player and then layer enemy territory were all gems.
Back in my day I could one hop beach and end the match under a minute
I couldn’t tell you anything about the campaign but I wasted countless hours doing multi player matches with my brother, mostly the beach invasion map. I remember it being fun times but I’m sure it wouldn’t hold up if I fired it up now.
Campaign was pretty good
Campaign is very good.
Can’t speak for the Multiplayer though. Spend that time wasting it with a frient in Enemy Territory.
You can still buy ET on Steam. I remember playing it a while ago. There wasn’t as much activity as twenty years ago, but it was still fun. The graphics are dated, but the gameplay is unbeatable.
no need tu buy it, you can download it from splashdamage themselfs. https://www.splashdamage.com/games/wolfenstein-enemy-territory/
and with etlegacy exists a modern client.
Cool!
Do you know if there’s crossplay between the official client and etlegacy?
etlegacy clients should be compatible with the latest server version, so yes.
Sounds good, thanks!
