You’ve got it completely right. This was practically the world cup final between Argentina and Spain. It’s mind boggling how much blatant shoving and pulling the Argentinian team got away with before one of the players finally got expelled from the game.
What’s mind boggling is how easy it is to manipulate large numbers of people to believe things that literally oppose what they’re seeing with their own eyes. Also how people that clearly never (or barely) watched any football at all in their entire lives are now experts in the matter.
As far as I remember, this is not World Cup exclusive, this happens with anything else that get famous. Like when some artist become famous because of some TikTok posts and then suddenly people start saying that they’ve been listening to that famous since day one?
There was some kind of campaign against not only argentina but south american teams in general. Futbol is a physical, contact permitted sport. Literally a part of the rules. When European teams have large capable players using their force it gets lauded as athletic and a wonderful display of physicality.
When south american teams do it they’re called dirty and cheaters.

Did the Argentinian players behave like idiots post Spain loss? Yeah, paredes and molina were idiots. Does any coverage of the Spanish player instigations get news coverage? Fat chance, even though fifa reviews also found them at fault and they too were penalized. Gavi even came out on record to say paredes shouldn’t have been penalized. I don’t agree but it demonstrates an understanding that the game gets heated and altercations like this can happen. The reporting and narrative though is wild.
