I think I’d actually prefer crowds like that. There are so many people that you become insignificant and barely draw any attention.

Worse situation: being trapped at a family gathering in a rural relative’s compound that you are socially obliged to attend without any friend or independent mode of transport. Also, you’re expected to serve food to and clean up after creepy uncles who would shamelessly harass you in public.

Don’t know how it is for OP, but just being in a crowd like that would drain me instantly even if I don’t need to interact with anyone there.

That’s me too. The sheer noise of it all. The heat. The smell. Fuck all of that.

“Close up” (look ahead, don’t make eye contact, serious expression or non-expressive) and just walk away towards the nearest way out, going around people or just “excuse me” and pass them until you’re outside that area.

I can see the problem if it’s a closed space, you don’t have independent means of going home (i.e. need a car and you didn’t came with your own or have to wait for public transport) or you’re with somebody and can’t just dissapear without telling them you’re leaving, but judging by the picture and given what the OP said, one might just be there by oneself and it just looks like a street fair in a park so the fastest way out is just to the side and into the park so this one seems to be a pretty straightforward situation to exit.

Alternativelly, just find a quiet corner (for example, behind the sales stands or at least to side away from the main crowded area) and go into observer mode - just watch people going by (if your humour goes that way, you can start mentally comenting how people act in a David Attenborough voice as if in a Documentary) and/or how the businesses are operating in terms of how they’re organised and do things. Just keep it logical and analytical (maybe with a touch of humour) - basically treat it as if you were one of the people working in one of the businesses, somebody working security or just an observer: you don’t need to be physically outside to be “outside”, you just need to playact as if you’re an outsider that’s not there as part of the crowd (like the people in working in the businesses or doing security). That should let you partially recharge the batteries.

It’s one of those things I learned with age - if you’re not comfortable there, just leave. Might have to tell somebody I’m leaving if with a group (otherwise people might worry) and might have to navigate the fucking crowd until I get to the nearest exit if it’s a closed area, but in my experience even with all that “just leave” is almost always the best possible option at least if you’re by yourself of just out with friends (and even if with a date or family, just be open and honest about how big crowds make you tired - if you don’t know it already you’ll discover that plenty of people feel the same - and they’ll probably be fine with leaving with you or with you leaving and them staying).

I have a theory that perfect chaos is perfect equilibrium.

In absolute chaos everything is the same because everything is perfectly equally possible.

So absolute chaos is really the same as absolute stillness.

      It makes sense.

      Full circle.

      Aumm.

Horrible place if you need to find someone.

Perfect place when you don’t want to be found.

This is me trying to find a nice place to watch the fireworks in Montreal then realize 10 minutes before it starts that I’ll have to go through that crowd when it’s over, so I just turn around and go back home pre-emptively.

My social battery dies the moment I SEE something like this. I’d just look at that crowd, and nope right on back home.

I stopped going to this one park that host multiple different ethnic food fests throughout the year. Every single one looks like this. They’re not fun. It’s like an hour plus wait to get to one booth, and they don’t even have the prices listed (stupidly overpriced) or the menus visible while you wait.

The whole point of those is to try multiple things, but the format kills that opportunity.

That is true with a lot of things. Same with over tourism - if I am pushed through the Collosseum with hundreds of people then fuck it, the Colosseum is not fun anymore.

I mean, depending on the location it would still work and the bag drop and run prank was making fun of islamophobes more than it was making fun of muslims.

My friend had a… Toilet brush? Is that what you call them? The toothbrushes for shit in the toilet?

He dipped it in liquid chocolate and held it in front of himself like Gandalf’s staff or like Moses dividing the Red Sea as he parted any mass of plebes in his path.

It was like pouring detergent in a greasy pan how people dispersed before him.

Great festival trick. Great trick in general, really.

This wouldn’t bother me, my social battery only runs low when forced to talk to people. That’s why I work in a dark, loud spicy box.
